New Garden Friends School

The Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) was founded over 300 years ago in England.  From their beginning, Friends around the world have been closely involved in education and the establishment of schools.  New Garden Friends School is led by the following
beliefs:

Equality
Friends believe that there is that of God in each
person.  In honoring that of God in every one, we believe in the unique value and spirituality of each person.  We are concerned for the worth, dignity, and equality of each person in the process of building community.

Peace
Friends are committed to settling differences in all human relationships in a peaceful manner.

I lived in the virtue of that life and power that took away the occasion of all wars...

I told them I was come into the covenant of peace which was before wars and strife were.  - George Fox

Simplicity & Social Justice
Friends seek to live simply and in harmony with others.  We recognize our fundamental interdependence as human beings, as well as our responsibility for the care of the natural environment on which our very existence depends.  Simplicity, social justice, and peace are a way of life made possible when we are empowered by the Love within us to act, individually and collectively.

Continuing Revelation & Seeking Truth
The Quaker belief in continuing revelation keeps a door always open for discovering more Truth.  Our school life includes times for individual and corporate silence to wait upon the spirit of God and Inner Light for discernment of Truth.

Our school community includes a diverse group of students and adults who value progressive, spirit-led education.

In our community, we:

  • Value cooperation over competition
  • Encourage hard work alongside quiet reflection
  • Celebrate strengths and differences
  • Think globally while acting locally
  • Develop plans and discover a passion and purpose for learning
  • Are innovative and inclusive
  • Treasure each person’s gifts.

Ultimately, we want our students to:

  • Learn that education is a life-long process.
  • Be responsible for themselves and for others.
  • Realize that it is important to ask questions and equally important to listen to the answers.
  • Discover that their exposure to people from diverse backgrounds teaches them to embrace and respect differences.
  • Value integrity.
