Welcome to the NGFS PCA

Hello and welcome to New Garden Friends School. The Parent & Community Association (PCA) is basically our PTA. All NGFS parents and guardians are part of it, and we're here to support the school and help continue to build our wonderful community. My family came to NGFS two years ago, excited but also a little nervous, and with a lot of questions. My daughters were transitioning from another school, and while we knew we had found the right place for our family, it was still a change from what we were used to. But I had no reason to worry. From the very first day of school, both of my kids came into the most caring and welcoming classes they had ever known and each had a fantastic year. We’re now in Middle School and fourth grade, and have learned that NGFS just keeps getting better!

And now I get to welcome you into our community, and invite and encourage you to get involved. There is no better way to get connected, get to know your teachers, and meet other parents, and we will have lots of opportunities for you. Some of the things you have to look forward to include our Fall Unity Festival, our Peace Day Celebration, Staff Appreciation events, Fiesta de los Niños, GrandFriends Day, our Barnes & Noble bookfair, drama productions, sports events, fall and spring trips — the list goes on and on!

And finally our big spring event, where we will host nationally known best-selling author Dr. Wendy Mogel, who will speak to our community and also to the greater Greensboro community, as well. In her books The Blessing of a B-Minus and The Blessing of a Skinned Knee, Dr. Mogel uses Jewish teachings to discuss how to raise resilient children and teens. These teachings fit remarkably well with our Quaker values. We will be having several book discussion groups leading up to her visit, and I highly recommend both of her books.

We love that you’ve chosen to be a part of our community, and we truly believe that the educational experience your kids will receive at a Quaker school is unlike anything else. Feel free to contact me at any time if I can answer questions or be of any other help to you. The PCA Board meets every month, and we’d love to hear your comments and ideas. I look forward to meeting and seeing everyone at a PCA event!

In peace,
