Middle School Electives

  • For rising 8th and 9th graders
  •  Sessions are held on Guilford Campus at 1128 New Garden Road.

Middle School Electives are open to rising 8th and 9th grade students. Given the developmental importance of having social interactions at this age, we offer this program to provide a safe and appropriate place for social and learning opportunities in comfortable settings. Everything is oriented toward students trying and doing activities for themselves while having fun with their peers in a relaxed learning environment. Regular field trips are offered at this level.

2025 Middle School Electives Sessions

June 9-13 - Tabletop Games ($280)

This week, we will venture into the world of games, from those played in ancient civilizations, to brand new games, and many in between. We will discuss strategies and design for all sorts of board, card, and dice games, as well as mental and outdoor games and a variety of pen & paper tabletop roleplaying games. We will play familiar games, look at new variations, and play games they have never encountered before. Campers will paint miniature character models and also have the opportunity to design their own brand new games or simple RPG systems!

June 16-20* - Baking and Cooking ($240)

This is a 4-day week, as we are closed Thursday, June 19, for the national holiday, Juneteenth.

Bring your baking and cooking skills and jump right into creating culinary delicacies as we taste our way through this week in the kitchen. Campers will learn basic kitchen skills and hone their existing ones by trying out recipes that range from simple snacks after school, to delicious desserts, to entrees to serve at dinner. We will go on several field trips to the grocery store, farmers markets, and farms all to procure our supplies and we will have competitions between groups on who can create the most delicious meal! Nailed It!

June 23-27 - Goofing Off in NC ($310)

This week gives campers the opportunity to explore Greensboro and the larger Triad area and its many interesting places and activities. Two days of the week, participants will get to select where to eat at local restaurants for lunch. We will see an appropriately rated movie and take time to explore some of the beautiful parks that are right here in the Gate City and beyond. On Monday, participants will have an opportunity to help plan the schedule, so bring your own ideas of fun things to do with all your Goofing Off friends around the area!
