Navigators (Rising 4th-5th)
Summer Navigators
- Summer Navigators camp is held on the Guilford Campus at 1128 New Garden Road.
Summer Navigators is a level of summer camp that allows rising 4th and 5th graders to explore new activities and themes in an age-appropriate group. Themes for this program were created using a blend of ideas from both our Adventures and Explorers’ sessions, giving the participants a bridge between the two camps. The smaller group size in this program provides the opportunity to do more in-depth and developmentally appropriate activities and projects.
2026 Summer Navigators Sessions
This week we will play a variety of sports and games that can range from physically demanding to very laid back. We will spend a lot of time outside playing games like Beckon, Camouflage, Rocks, Koob, and Croquet. We will also introduce you to some unique sports around the world like Cricket, QuadBall, Bo-Taoshi, and Sepak Takraw. There will be plenty of inside time to cool down and participate in card and board games like Tacocat, Slamwich, Pit, Abducktion, and WAY more! Each day, campers will have the opportunity to play against counselors in wacky challenges. Who will emerge victorious?! Come ready to play and have fun, win or lose!
*This is a 4-day week, as we are closed Friday, June 19, for the national holiday, Juneteenth.
This session will give participants the opportunity to hone basic skills using hand tools and learn more finish work techniques on their wood creations, including sanding and staining with eco-friendly stains. Each builder will choose a project from many options and plans, including the classic treasure chest, bookshelf, toolbox, and more. We have some sci-fi inspired options to offer as well. We will complete other wood craft projects and expand on other activities outside the workshop!
Welcome brave travelers to a week of trade and exploration around the globe! Together we will explore the history of the Silk Routes, and the art, culture, and merchandise traded between Europe and Asia in the Middle Ages. We will make fine goods to trade along the way like soap carvings, spice mixes, and candles. We will make and learn to use an abacus, make and eat noodles, spice our own food, and drink our own spiced tea. By the end of our adventures, all traders will be skilled in creating trade goods, navigating the high seas, and have a healthy appetite for trying new and unknown things.
Take a walk on the wild side as we learn about the amazing and crazy creatures that live on our planet, from all things furry, feathered and finned. We will explore both wild and domesticated animals, receive visits from critters that live in the area, make animal crafts, and cook up dog biscuits to donate to our canine friends at a local rescue. We will also investigate several unverified cryptid creatures from our state like Normie and Knobby. On Friday, we will visit the NC Zoo for a final animal adventure. Let the wild rumpus begin!
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to learn all about forensic science by dusting for fingerprints, creating plaster casts of shoeprints, and trying out a variety of ways to collect evidence to solve daily and weeklong mysteries. Solve Minute Mysteries and play plenty of games that require keen observations and deduction! We will also test your stealthiness in our Spy Training Program, make and use a variety of spy gadgets, like night vision cameras and review-glasses, and learn about history’s infamous spies. Discover how to decipher secret codes, make cipher wheels, and write in invisible ink. Test the skills you learn in the New Garden Escape Room and finish the week by solving the final Friday mystery.
An amazing race comes to camp. This week, teams will embark on a journey across the map by completing a series of physical and trivia challenges. From city to city, and landmark to landmark, participants will seek out clues to get to their next destination. Gathering materials to make and deliver NY style pizza, finding clues with a metal detector, racing a scooter slalom, navigating a blind “cave crawl” or building a skyscraper out of blocks are just a few of the challenges that await. Campers will follow the clues to discover the chocolate capital and pickle capital of the US, and where the world’s largest ball of twine is located. All challenges and travels throughout the week will lead up to a Friday challenge to get to the final winning location! On your mark, get set, GO!
This session gives participants the chance to have fun playing games combined with venturing out to discover fun around town. We will explore local parks, see some local oddities, play tag and card games, and compete in goofy 60 second challenges. We will make our own lunch, and go out to eat another day, shop for movie snacks and watch a movie, and make cookies and brownies. Come hang out and have a goofy, fun week!
