Middle School students had a chilly yet productive week. After the first week back from Winter Break everyone is back in the groove of school routines and much less sleepy!
Monday began with a presentation on the Buddhist monks’ “Walk for Peace” and students who knew about it had the opportunity to share their knowledge and thoughts in morning meeting. We looked at maps of the entire planned route and have been tracking their progress this week with the monks reaching North Carolina on the 14th. The monks are tentatively scheduled to arrive in the Triad area near Greensboro this coming Monday so perhaps you may have the opportunity to go see the monks on their journey for peace. It feels serendipitous that the monks may reach our area on Martin Luther King Jr. day to remind us all of our shared values of equality and peace. You may follow their progress here.
Middle School joined Upper School on Wednesday morning during their “Teach-In”, in honor of MLK Day, for the opening drum circle performance with Kojo Bey and four of his children, who perform together under the name “Drums 4 Life”. The music was amazing and included many of our students jumping up to volunteer to play percussion instruments. Mr. Bey discussed with the students the importance of understanding your own and others’ cultures, learning from elders, being of service, and more and connecting it all with the legacy of Dr. King.
Please remember you may always access specific course content on the MS Website and review student due dates for homework, quizzes, tests, projects, etc. on the Google Calendar posted on the website as well.
A few reminders for next week:
Monday 1/19 - NO School/MLK Day
Wednesday 1/21 - MS Service Day
