WEEKLY NEWS
4/27-5/1
This week’s glimmer: If your student came home thrilled to share about a new “big kid” friend, we had a Sunrise alum/current 5th grade visitor for three days this week and our friends absolutely loved it! Jared joined was not only a tremendous help around the class, but also a quick friend to many of our students. We now enjoy watching our students wave to Jared as his class walks by and gazing out our windows while he plays basketball outside.
Weekly academics: This week we learned about open and closed syllables. We learned that when a vowel does not have a consonant blocking it in it says its name. When there is a consonant at the end it says its short vowel sound. We have had a lot of fun changing words like “hi” into new words like “him.” We read a story about Mog, a bad cat who does not listen. After reading the story our friends wrote about whether or not they like cats and why. In math we are wrapping up our fifth module next week. We started exploring patterns and how they can help us as we continue to solve math problems. This has been a pretty easy concept for our friends since we are always noticing patterns everywhere!
TK was busy this week and did a phenomenal job being flexible with rainy weather and disruptions in our schedule. When we were not joining kindergarten for literacy and math, we began our unit on all things insects. Beginning by collecting information about what we already know, we are excited to launch into insect investigation next week!
