Complete this Health Google form by Friday, April 24 to let Kathryn, our School Nurse, know if you will or will not send medication(s) for your child for this trip. This allows for efficient tracking of the receipt of medications and any necessary follow-up communication.

The NGFS Medication Administration Authorization form and accompanying medications must be turned in by Monday, April 27.

Hand these directly to Kathryn or to Serena at the front desk. Forms can be submitted electronically to health@ngfs.org.

**Medications must be in the original prescription bottle, labeled with the student’s name, dosage, etc. **Please send only the amount needed during the trip.

Please note that we may not give any medication without a signed form.

Prescription AND non-prescription (over the counter) medications to be administered during the trip, must be prescribed, authorized, and signed by a physician or health care provider AND parent/guardian on the Medication Administration Authorization Form.

Khaira (sent 4/27/26)

Dear New Garden Community,

As I leave this friendly place, I am reminded of the ways in which community and care are demonstrated on a daily basis, which has altered the way in which I will continue to show up in my future endeavors. It has truly been nothing short of an incredible experience to work with students, families, faculty, and staff. I have enjoyed every facet of responsibilities on the lower campus during my four years here. From teaching Spanish, to offering assistance in the office, going on trips, and most recently as a support teacher, my confidence has grown as an educator and mentor. I am grateful for every memory, relationship, and piece of guidance. Thank you to everyone who made this foundational portion of my professional journey so positively rewarding! I will always carry the love that I have for this school near and dear to my heart.

I am eager to announce that I will be continuing my education in pursuit of a Masters of Science in Communication and Science Disorders at North Carolina Central University in Durham this fall. Language and communication have always been a special interest of mine and so I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge to become a pathologist who will continue to make effective communication, a human right, accessible and achievable for all.

In peace,

Khaira Bolden

2/16/26

Let's see if the third time is a charm! We have rescheduled the transition meeting, To Middle School and Beyond, for Tuesday, March 3, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. in the Middle School Commons. We are looking forward to our 6th-grade families attending, and we welcome 5th-grade families to this event on March 3rd if you'd like to be thinking ahead.

Our Interim Head of School, Craig Sellers, and our incoming Head of School for the 2026-27 school year, Michelle Klosterman, will be in attendance to talk with families, along with the Head of Middle and Upper School, Tanisha Jones; Counselor, Jenn Milton; and our classroom teachers. What a wealth of knowledge and experience in one room to have some great conversations about your students' upcoming transition year at NGFS!

Childcare/Extended Care is provided for free for Galaxy families (Galaxy students and siblings) during this meeting. It will be held on the Bob Page Campus. You MUST sign up in advance through the RSVP link, no later than Sunday, March 1, to use Extended Care for this meeting.

Click here to RSVP and sign-up for Extended Care (if needed).

MOVE-UP DAY - Wednesday, April 8

Save the Date!

Move-Up Day provides an opportunity for rising 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th grade students to spend a day in the next grade level. On this day, our 6th graders will visit Middle School (grades 7-8) on the Bob Page Campus.* This gives students a chance to know what the campus and classrooms look like, experience what academic activities are like at the next level, and connect with students and teachers. Often, students have a sense of excitement and begin to look  forward to the next school year. Please mark your calendars for this important date and avoid scheduling appointments for your child on April 8.

*Students should be dropped off between 8 and 8:25 a.m. and picked up at 3:00 p.m. on the Bob Page Campus. More details will be provided closer to the date.

In peace,

Tanisha Jones

Head of Middle and Upper School

Dear Galaxy parents and guardians,
We invite you to join us for a pre-health class meeting for parents on Tuesday, January 6 at 8:00 a.m. in Khaira’s classroom on the Galaxy / Horizon hall. The purpose of the meeting is to share about the upcoming Galaxy Health unit that Charles (Lower School P.E. teacher) and Jen (Lower School Counselor) will be teaching during PE class. The Health curriculum rotates through a two-year cycle. This year's topics include puberty, reproduction, respecting our bodies, and self-esteem.The class will meet once a week for 6-8 weeks during Galaxy’s resource combination class time so no regular PE classes will be affected.

We hope you can join us!

Thank you,
Genny

Parent/Student/Teacher Conferences (12/10/2025)

Dear Galaxy families,

Just a reminder, this Friday is Parent/Teacher/Student Conferences.  There is no school on this day, and Extended Care is available.  At the Galaxy level, students are required to attend the conference, so please be sure to bring your Galaxian with you!  We will begin the conference as a parent/teacher conference to review the evaluation and answer any questions.  After that, Galaxy students will join for goal setting.  In addition to reading the evaluation, we also ask that parents have a social and/or academic goal in mind for your child.  If you are unable to attend your conference, please let your contact teacher know as soon as possible.

In peace,

Khaira, Neil, and Tracey

Speech and Hearing Screenings (sent 9/4/25)

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Speech Pathologist, Martha Eanes, M.Ed., CCC-SLP, offers speech and hearing screenings to the children at New Garden Friends School. These screenings include:

  • Hearing screening using an audiometer - This assessment takes about 5 minutes. If the child does not pass the initial screening, parents/guardians are notified, and the child is seen again in 2 weeks (at no additional charge). If the child does not pass a second time, families are referred to an audiologist or ENT specialist for further audiological assessment.
  • Screening of articulation, language concepts, sentence grammar, auditory memory, voice and fluency - Teachers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that will assist in identifying any speech, language, listening or early literacy problems. This screening takes about 10 minutes.

These screenings will result in either 1) no further evaluation necessary, 2) a recommendation for a short assessment in specific problem areas identified, or 3) a recommendation for a more comprehensive assessment. A letter will be provided to parents/guardians and teachers indicating the child has either passed all of the developmental screening or is recommended for further assessment. A list of services available in the Greensboro area will also be provided.

This service is offered at a cost of $50 per child. *The fee for 4 and 5-year-olds (ACG-Iris and Sunrise students) is paid through tuition and no payment is required.

Screenings will take place during September. If you would like for your child to participate in the screening, please complete the permission form here (or a paper copy) and return it as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please email Marci Richardson, Lower School Learning Specialist  at mrichardson@ngfs.org.

Thank you,

Genny

Classroom Allergy Communication (sent 8/18/25)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am Kathryn, the school nurse. My job is to ensure our students are learning in a healthy and safe environment, this includes asking for your assistance in being mindful of food allergies.

In Galaxy we have children allergic to: cashews, all nuts, peanuts, shellfish, gluten, and eggs.

This year Galaxy will be a NUT-FREE ZONE, with the exception of creamy peanut butter.

I know these precautions take extra thought and planning, but together we can make sure every child feels safe and included at school. Thank you for helping us keep our classrooms healthy for all.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Kathryn
