Please note that we may not give any medication without a signed form.

Khaira (sent 4/27/26)

Dear New Garden Community,

As I leave this friendly place, I am reminded of the ways in which community and care are demonstrated on a daily basis, which has altered the way in which I will continue to show up in my future endeavors. It has truly been nothing short of an incredible experience to work with students, families, faculty, and staff. I have enjoyed every facet of responsibilities on the lower campus during my four years here. From teaching Spanish, to offering assistance in the office, going on trips, and most recently as a support teacher, my confidence has grown as an educator and mentor. I am grateful for every memory, relationship, and piece of guidance. Thank you to everyone who made this foundational portion of my professional journey so positively rewarding! I will always carry the love that I have for this school near and dear to my heart.

I am eager to announce that I will be continuing my education in pursuit of a Masters of Science in Communication and Science Disorders at North Carolina Central University in Durham this fall. Language and communication have always been a special interest of mine and so I am looking forward to expanding my knowledge to become a pathologist who will continue to make effective communication, a human right, accessible and achievable for all.

In peace,

Khaira Bolden

MOVE-UP DAY - Wednesday, April 8

Save the Date!

Move-Up Day provides an opportunity for rising 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9th grade students to spend a day in the next grade level. On this day, our 6th graders will visit Middle School (grades 7-8) on the Bob Page Campus.* This gives students a chance to know what the campus and classrooms look like, experience what academic activities are like at the next level, and connect with students and teachers. Often, students have a sense of excitement and begin to look  forward to the next school year. Please mark your calendars for this important date and avoid scheduling appointments for your child on April 8.

*Students should be dropped off between 8 and 8:25 a.m. and picked up at 3:00 p.m. on the Bob Page Campus. More details will be provided closer to the date.

In peace,

Tanisha Jones

Head of Middle and Upper School

Speech and Hearing Screenings (sent 9/4/25)

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Speech Pathologist, Martha Eanes, M.Ed., CCC-SLP, offers speech and hearing screenings to the children at New Garden Friends School. These screenings include:

  • Hearing screening using an audiometer - This assessment takes about 5 minutes. If the child does not pass the initial screening, parents/guardians are notified, and the child is seen again in 2 weeks (at no additional charge). If the child does not pass a second time, families are referred to an audiologist or ENT specialist for further audiological assessment.
  • Screening of articulation, language concepts, sentence grammar, auditory memory, voice and fluency - Teachers are asked to fill out a questionnaire that will assist in identifying any speech, language, listening or early literacy problems. This screening takes about 10 minutes.

These screenings will result in either 1) no further evaluation necessary, 2) a recommendation for a short assessment in specific problem areas identified, or 3) a recommendation for a more comprehensive assessment. A letter will be provided to parents/guardians and teachers indicating the child has either passed all of the developmental screening or is recommended for further assessment. A list of services available in the Greensboro area will also be provided.

This service is offered at a cost of $50 per child. *The fee for 4 and 5-year-olds (ACG-Iris and Sunrise students) is paid through tuition and no payment is required.

Screenings will take place during September. If you would like for your child to participate in the screening, please complete the permission form here (or a paper copy) and return it as soon as possible.

If you have any questions, please email Marci Richardson, Lower School Learning Specialist  at mrichardson@ngfs.org.

Thank you,

Genny

Classroom Allergy Communication (sent 8/18/25)

Dear Parents and Guardians,

I am Kathryn, the school nurse. My job is to ensure our students are learning in a healthy and safe environment, this includes asking for your assistance in being mindful of food allergies.

In Galaxy we have children allergic to: cashews, all nuts, peanuts, shellfish, gluten, and eggs.

This year Galaxy will be a NUT-FREE ZONE, with the exception of creamy peanut butter.

I know these precautions take extra thought and planning, but together we can make sure every child feels safe and included at school. Thank you for helping us keep our classrooms healthy for all.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

Kathryn

5/4-5/8- Class Trip Updates

May 05, 2026
By Galaxy Teachers

Day 1:
We have arrived! After running on the human hamster wheel, checking out the bed of nails, talking to a parrot, and participating in chemistry experiments, we headed out from Discovery Place to Camp Long. This is our first time staying at Camp Long and we can't say enough about their hospitality and their facilities.  Galaxians have already checked out the gaga ball pit, played Frisbee, and enjoyed stretching our legs after a long bus ride. We set up our cabins and we are currently enjoying chicken strips, broccoli, mashed potatoes, and the salad bar for dinner. After dinner we will have time for trip journals and free time before heading to the outdoor pavilion for our evening activities. We miss you all already, but we are having a blast!

Day 2:
Dear Galaxy families,
We had another busy and fun-filled day on the spring trip!  After breakfast of eggs, sausage, yogurt, and cinnamon rolls roughly the size of the average Galaxian's head, we were back on the buses to head to Lexington, South Carolina. While we were there, we visited the Lexington County Historical Society where we toured the buildings and property and learned more about the families who lived there in the 1800s.  After lunch it was on to Columbia to visit the Riverbanks Zoo and Gardens.  We split into small family groups and got up close and personal with wallabys, koalas, lorikeets, and rhinos.  A number of Galaxians enjoyed delicious frozen treats, and of course the much awaited zoo shopportunity!  We are now back at Camp Long for the evening and stretching our legs with a little free time before dinner.  We hope you are all doing well!

Day 3:
Dear Galaxy families,
Greetings from South Carolina!  Today we added another state to our list as we headed out to Augusta, Georgia.  This morning we visited the Phinizy Swamp where we split into two groups and rotated through three different activities that allowed Galaxians to assess the health of Butler Creek, steam that feeds into the Savannah River.  They did chemical testing on the water to check the pH and measure the level of carbon dioxide.  Galaxians then completed physical observations of the stream, and finally identified and categorized aquatic macro invertebrates.  After lunch, we were back on the buses for a short drive to the Augusta Canal Museum and boat ride.  We started with the boat ride where we learned more about the history of Augusta and the canal before heading into the museum.  We are now back at Camp Long for some free time before work jobs and dinner.  Tonight spaghetti is on the menu.  We will finish off the evening with a camp fire, random human talent night, and the much anticipated beard growing competition.
Just a reminder, tomorrow we will pack up from camp and head to the Raptor Center just outside of Charlotte.  After lunch, we will say goodbye to fifth grade and continue on with sixth grade for their final evening.  We anticipate 5th grade will be back around 4, but we will send out notifications when we leave the raptor center and when we are an hour from home.  We can't wait to see you all soon!

Day 4:
Dear Galaxy families,
We are sure our fifth grade families have already heard about our adventures, but we wanted to send an update to sixth grade families this evening.  After packing up at Camp Long we headed to the NC Raptor Center where we had the chance to walk the raptor trail and attend a keeper program about the red legged seriema.  Be sure to ask your Galaxian about the toy dinosaur!  Once fifth grade left for NGFS we began revealing each new destination for the sixth graders, starting with Reedy Creek Nature Preserve.  After spending time at their playground and nature center, we headed off to bowling and arcade games, and finally a local Mexican restaurant for dinner.  We are now back at Charlotte Friends Meeting and having a little down time before evening activities and read aloud.
We anticipate arriving back at school around 11am on Friday, but we will notify parents when we leave Charlotte, and when we are an hour from home.  We can't wait to see all of our sixth grade families tomorrow!
