The email included the daily schedule with an overview of each day’s activities and health information related to the optional overnight experience. Click below to review the details (the email is also posted above in the Class Emails section). These trips are a cherished tradition at New Garden Friends School. REMINDER: Robotics Interest Meeting - Tuesday, Sept. 30
As NGFS continues to provide students with a range of opportunities to excel in the evolving digital age, we are thrilled to offer a unique after-school robotics program to students in grades 7 through 12. Led by Julia Wagner, our Robotics Teacher and the Director of Education and Programs at FIRST North Carolina, this program will be a one-of-a-kind opportunity for our students to delve into STEM, learning engineering and problem-solving skills while deepening their appreciation for the field.
If your student is interested in gaining hands-on experience in designing and building robots, experiencing real-world engineering, and possibly competing, we invite you to join us for an interest meeting. This meeting, scheduled for Tuesday, September 30, at 6 p.m. in the Upper School Commons on the Bob Page Campus, will provide all the details about the program, led by Julia Wagner.
SERVICE LEARNING
Next week, we will have our first Service Day on Wed, Sept. 24. This will be an introductory session where students will learn about the expectations for Service Days for the year and about the organizations with which we will partner.
You can find the following information about Service Days and Independent Service Hours in the Upper School Handbook.
Service Days
Service is an integral part of our curriculum, and Service Learning appears on student transcripts. Therefore, all grades 9-12 students are expected to participate in US service days. Upon returning from service sites, students will reflect on their experiences, bringing the
elements together in their digital Service Learning Portfolio. Upper School Service Days for the 2025-26 school year are as follows: Sept. 24, Oct. 22, Nov. 12, Dec. 10, Jan. 14 (teach-in), Feb. 18, March 18, and April 15. If there is a need to change a Service Day date, students and families will be notified via email and NGFS App notification, and the online calendar will be updated. A senior may be excused from participating in US Service Days if they provide documentation prior to the service day that they will be working on their senior capstone.
Independent Service Hours
In addition to participating in Upper School Service Days, students must complete the minimum requirements for volunteer work listed below. Hours must be logged in Renweb and will be tracked by the advisor.
9th grade - 10 hours
10th grade - 15 hours
11th grade - 20 hours
12th grade - Senior Capstone
On Monday, Sept. 15, this information was shared with US students via email from Lisa-Bates Glass
Subject: Service Learning Hours - logging into Family Portal

Please see this link for instructions about entering your service learning independent hours. If you have any trouble logging into Family Portal or adding your service hours, please let me know.

On Friday, Sept. 5, this email invitation was sent for our Fall Carnation Ceremony.
One of our most beloved traditions is the Carnation Ceremony. Each fall, the seniors welcome the Sunrise (TK and K) students to the school with a flower; in the spring, the Sunrise students wish the seniors well by offering them a flower.
We are excited to announce the date for the fall ceremony, which will take place in a special Quaker Meeting on Monday, Sept. 22 at 1:30 p.m. at New Garden Friends Meeting, located at 801 New Garden Road.
We hope you can be there for this special celebration. If you plan to join us, please RSVP by Thursday, Sept. 18 by sending an email to Head of Middle and Upper School Tanisha Jones at tanisha@ngfs.org. Please include the number in attendance (not including your student) when you send your RSVP.
Life After New Garden Workshops in English 12 - from Allie Blosser (US Academic Dean and College Counselor)
This information was shared with seniors and their families via email from Allie on 9/3/25.
Yesterday was the first day of many that I worked with seniors on college applications and/or planning for life after New Garden. I had students review their transcripts for accuracy and went over how our GPAs are calculated. I also had students book individual appointments with me over the next two weeks so we can discuss their plans. Please know that parents can join these appointments if desired or make a separate appointment with me at any time by emailing me. Lastly, we went over a few basic steps in the Common App that need to be completed in order for the Common App to integrate with Scoir, the system we utilize to digitally send recommendations, transcripts, our school profile, etc. I will check to make sure these steps are complete in my individual meetings with students. I will be in Maura’s class again early next week on 9/8 to continue to work with students, and Maura already has them working on their personal essays for the Common App.
