Third graders quickly finished up Topic B, and moved on to Topic C where we learned about using different operations to solve for area (such as breaking a rectangle into two smaller parts with friendlier numbers). We took our quiz on Topic C on Friday! On Monday, we will begin our final topic of this module, where we will begin applying area to different real life situations. To learn more about our final math topic of Module 4, check out this Family Math Letter. Fourth graders practiced making equivalent fractions with various strategies such as using multiplication and division, number lines, and tape diagrams. On Friday, they began their new topic where we will practice comparing fractions. To learn more about our next topic, check out this Family Math Letter.
For our Horizon Spring Trip, in addition to the Horizon teaching team, we take additional staff and a few parents to help chaperone the students. This would entail attending the trip for its entirety and pitching in to help in a variety of ways. If you are interested in chaperoning on our Spring Trip, then let your contact teacher know before Spring Break.
In Literacy, we are wrapping up are units, and beginning science units in both grades- ”Adventures in Light and Sound” in third grade and “Eureka:Student Inventors” in fourth grade. Horizon scientists are already buzzing with excitement about these new units. Additionally, we wrapped up our book clubs this week. Throughout these discussions, Horizoners engaged in interesting conversations about these novels.
On Thursday, we will share some of our work in Horizon and Resource classes in our unit day celebration from 10:30-12. We will begin in the gym with Resource teachers leading then celebration, then we will move up to the classrooms.
